The Rocket Man Returns!

Yesterday afternoon we received a return visit from 'Rocket Man' Nick Corston from STEAM Co. Nick was here at The Meads two years ago to deliver a whole school workshop to children and parents on how to build their own paper rockets, which were then all launched on the school field. He returned yesterday to talk about the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths (STEAM) in the 21st Century and how creativity and imagination were vital skills to nurture in schools. Several parents were able to come along to hear him speak to the Key Stage 2 children and stay as he then launched a real gunpowder rocket some 150 metres into the sky from the playground, in front of an eager audience at the end of the school day. Thank you to everyone who took time out of their day at what was very short notice; special thanks to Year 3 as well who gave up part of their Roman WOW day to come along - we will ensure they get to finish all of their exciting activities before the end of term. And of course thanks to Nick for his enthusiasm and inspiration. He will be back next year to deliver further workshops on STEAM throughout the school.
