Science Investigation Day 2020

On Tuesday 21st January, all the children had fun and were engaged in our investigative science day.  The children looked at different science enquiry types, and had the chance to do practical activities linked to each.  Some of these involved the children making observations using all their senses, especially to see how an effervescent tablet dissolved and then with some describing all the things they sensed by writing a Kenning poem.

All of the children participated in an investigation to see which what makes the best gyrocopter.  This involved children setting up a fair test and, in some cases, independently selecting the variables that they would like change in order to create their investigation.  Some changed the length of the wings; some the materials they used to make the gyrocopters; while others chose to change the weight using paper-clips.  They were then able to select what they were going to measure, such as the time taken to reach the ground, the number of spins, or the accuracy of the landing.  The results were then recorded by the children, with some using the iPads to record in slow motion the number of spins.
