Chinese New Year in the Early Years

We have been learning about Chinese New Year.  We have found out information from books and a DVD about how people celebrate this event.  

This year is the Year of the Rat.  We prepared and cooked vegetable stir fry.  The children helped to cut up the vegetables to prepare them to be stir fried.  The vegetables included courgettes, carrots, mange tout, baby sweetcorn, mushrooms, red pepper and bean sprouts.  Once the vegetables and noodles were cooked the children tucked into a delicious meal using chopsticks! 

In our PE lessons we have created a Dragon Dance like the ones that we have seen in videos.  Here are our dragon costumes that we made in our Creative Workshop. for our amazing Dragon Dance!  We  practised moving in our large groups as a long dragon.  We really enjoyed our dance and listening to Chinese music.
