Beth Tweddle visits The Meads

Today we were delighted to welcome World Champion and London 2012 Olympic bronze medallist gymnast Beth Tweddle into school.  She spent time talking to children from year 1 to year 6 in a whole school assembly about the benefits of keeping active and eating a healthy diet.

Beth spoke passionately about her career in sport and as a personality on the television and made specific reference to the importance of having resilience when facing setbacks.  She encouraged the children to follow their dreams and be brave to try new activities, even when they might feel anxious.  These sentiments tie in wonderfully with our school values and have helped Beth become the champion she is!  Several children answered questions posed by Beth and won themselves a signed photograph.

All children will be bringing home a leaflet promoting Gymfinity Kids, which offers gymnastics, dance and Ninja classes in our local area.  There is even an opportunity for all children to attend an introductory session completely free of charge.  Perhaps this is the start of training the gymnasts of the future and who knows...maybe we will have a boy or a girl from The Meads appearing at the Olympics in Brisbane in 2032 or at a later Games.
