The Great Fire of London

Year 2 had a fantastic Wow Day taking part in engaging and exciting activities linked to 1666 and The Great Fire of London, which we have been learning about in our Fire topic.  The children had the opportunity to make bread which was delicious! They practised weaving and writing  with feather quills and ink. In the afternoon, all of Year 2 got together to recreate The Great Fire of London, by setting alight houses they had made in the day. It was an amazing day and all of the children and adults had so much fun.

Ruislip Lido

This term in Year 2, the children have been learning all about the seaside. Yesterday , we all had a wonderful day experiencing a day at the beach at Ruislip Lido. The children engaged in lots of beach games, built fantastic sand castles and had lots of fun in the splash park.  Luckily, the rain stayed away and we had lovely beach weather all day!

Year 2 Mothers Day 2018

This afternoon the children in Year 2 held afternoon tea for their Mums, Grandmas and Nans with a sandwich and cake that they made themselves. We had a lovely time and hope everyone that came did too! Happy Mothers Day!

Mr Twit

This afternoon Year 2 had a visit from Mr Twit. He came into our classrooms and read to us some of 'The Twits' story by Roald Dahl. All of the children thoroughly enjoyed it!

The Great Fire of London

This half term the Year 2 children have been learning about The Great Fire of London. On Wednesday we went back in time to 1666 and re-visited the historical event on our playground, with houses that the children had built. All of the children thoroughly enjoyed the day and made lots of effort with their costumes. The children have also learnt the nursery rhyme 'London's burning' which was inspired by The Great Fire of London.

Beach fun day

Yesterday we had a beach fun day at school on the playground. We splashed around in pools, played beach games, jumped on the bouncy castle and ate a yummy ice-cream. It was lots of fun!!

Holme School visits The Meads

What a fantastic day we had in year 2 on Tuesday! We were visited by a school from the coast, called Holme Primary School. In Rabbits, together we discussed our similarities and differences and then drew each other’s hand to show what was different and the same; it was so interesting. Holme School is so much smaller than ours yet has more ground with a wooded area. Compared to our class – Rabbits- where there are 28 children, they only have 12 children in their class. We also found out a lot about each other. After lunch Holme Primary children visited the other year 2 classes where they took part in a logo competition in Hedgehogs and the ‘swamp’ challenge in Squirrels.

We all had so much fun!

Owl visit

In Year 2 we have been learning about nocturnal animals. Last week we were lucky enough to have a visit from The English School of Falconry. They brought 4 different owls for us to learn about. The children had lots of fun learning about the different owls and their 3 Super Powers! The children are now going to be writing fact files and reports about owls and other nocturnal animals back in class.

Year 2 Walton on the Naze

Year 2 had a brilliant day at Walton on the Naze. They have done some lovely writing and now have a concrete experience of the seaside, linking to our Summer 2 topic focus.
